"Don't dismiss honour killing claim: judge," by Kenyon Wallace for the National Post, November 24 (thanks to Kim): A Federal Court judge has ordered the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration to consider the credibility of a woman's claim that she will be the victim of an "honour killing" if deported to her home country of Pakistan. Justice Michael Kelen found that an immigration officer reviewing evidence in the case of Roohi Tabassum, a 44-year-old Mississauga hair stylist who has been fighting to stay in Canada since 2001, made a mistake by characterizing as "not threatening" letters purportedly from Ms. Tabassum's husband in which he promised to "finish" Ms. Tabassum if she returned to Pakistan. According to documents submitted to Citizenship and Immigration obtained by the National Post, Ms. Tabassum claims her husband, Faisal Javed, thought to be living in Dubai, began sending her letters and emails in 2006 in which he threatens to kill her for "dishonouring" his family by touching other men's hair while working at a Mississauga salon. She also claims her husband and his family have become erroneously convinced that she is living with another man in Canada, after a friend's husband answered the phone at her apartment one night. "What you are doing there, does it look better to you and does your religion allow you to touch other men? It is better to die hungry," says one 2006 letter translated from Urdu and allegedly written by Mr. Javed. "Tell me everything true otherwise you know that I can do anything for my honour. Do you know how much I believed in you? Other than this you are also aware that your life is seriously in danger in Pakistan…. Everybody is against you. I am also very combative to you. If you are here, I could not leave you alive." After asking her husband for a divorce, Ms. Tabassum received another letter dated February 2007 in which Mr. Javed alledgedly writes: "My doubts about you are real and right but keep this in mind that now I will finish you myself."… The judge referred the case to another officer and suggested a hearing to "determine if these documents containing the threats are credible, or self-serving documents created by persons close to the applicant to buttress her case to be allowed to remain in Canada." "Germany home to 90 combat Islamists: report," from The Local, November 28: There are about 90 combat-trained Islamists in Germany moving among underground networks, Focus magazine reported Saturday, as intelligence agencies and police prepare to overhaul the country's anti-terrorism approach. Some 30 of them have actual fighting experience through clashes with US or Pakistani soldiers, the magazine reported, citing German security sources. In total, 185 Islamists trained in terrorist camps in central Asia had lived or worked in Germany in the past 10 years, the sources said. New, young radicals were no longer recruited only through mosques, but also in universities, prisons and sports clubs, the report said. The security sources wanted Germany to take a stronger stance in the future towards deradicalising young Islamists. According to a separate report in magazine Der Spiegel, the Joint Terrorism Defence Centre (GTAZ) – a co-operation between various German police and intelligence agencies – will hold a forum in December to overhaul the country's anti-terrorism strategy and come up with fresh approaches. The efforts would be aimed at native German converts to Islam, as much as radicals with immigrant backgrounds. Until now, anti-radicalisation measures had been piecemeal across Germany's states, ranging from educational comic books to one-on-one conversations with violence-prone Islamists, the Spiegel report said. The forum, organised by the Interior Ministry, would also study Jihadists who had already been convicted and imprisoned, as they posed their own danger in jail, where they could radicalise other prisoners. To fight this problem, moderate Imams and Islamic organisations could be brought into counter the influence of radicals in jails, the Spiegel report said. Hood-based U.S. soldier who is refusing to deploy to Afghanistan, and while previously in Iraq refused to leave base. The Muslim Link is touting him as An Example of Real Patriotism: MARFA, Texas, May 26 (IPS) – "It's a matter of what I'm willing to live with," Specialist Victor Agosto of the U.S. Army, who is refusing orders to deploy to Afghanistan, explained to IPS. "I'm not willing to participate in this occupation, knowing it is completely wrong." Agosto, who returned from a 13-month deployment to Iraq in November 2007, is based at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas. The discovery coincided with a visit from Gen. David Petraeus, commander of U.S. Central Command, who was in town for Officer Candidate School graduation. The threat prompted a criminal investigation and greater police presence on the Army base, the Army Times reports. According to a witness on the scene, a box of 20 hollow-point shells and a handwritten note were found under the 197th Infantry Training Brigade. "The note said 'tell the commanding general to call off all charges or there will be a re-enactment of Fort Hood,' " a witness told Army Times. Army psychiatrist Nidal Hasan is charged in the Nov. 5 shooting deaths of 13 fellow service members. While the media covered up for Islamic jihad at Ft. Chicago has been on the cutting edge of gun control.   They've given us an assault weapons ban, mandatory gun registration and the most anti-gun President of all time, Barack Obama. It should come as no surprise that Chicago politicians think they're above the law.   While Chicago has some of the most anti-gun laws in America, politicians in Chicago have placed their own safety over the safety of the citizens who elected them. While ordinary citizens are forbidden from owning guns for self defense, Chicago elected officials had themselves classified as law enforcement officers so that they could carry handguns for self defense. From the Chicago Tribune's Steve Chapman: Armed pols: An unfortunate Chicago tradition Last week, the body of Chicago school board president Michael Scott was found in the Chicago River with a single bullet wound in his head. The big story was that this powerful, well-connected public official had, according to the Cook County medical examiner, committed suicide. The less-noticed story was that he did it with an illegal weapon. After all, handgun ownership is not allowed in Chicago, which has one of the strictest gun control laws in the country, and Scott killed himself with a .380-caliber sidearm. Unlike most Chicagoans, Scott could have been a legal handgun owner. Because he had it before the ban was enacted, he was allowed to register and keep it. But the police department says he never did. By having it in the city, Scott was guilty of an offense that could have gotten him jail time. Amazingly enough, he was not the first local public official to take the view that firearms restrictions are something for other, ordinary people to observe. Chicago politicians are zealously committed to gun control in law, but fairly relaxed about it in practice. In 1994, state Sen. Rickey Hendon, D-Chicago, had an unregistered handgun stolen from his home in a burglary, and he didn't feign contrition about his disregard of the ordinance. "I have a right to protect myself," he declared, noting that he had been burglarized before — and forgetting that the state legislature of which he is a member allows Illinois cities to deprive their citizens of that right. Asked if he would replace the lost piece, Hendon said, "No comment." The police were kind enough not to charge him. U.S. Sen. Roland Burris, another Chicagoan, has endorsed a nationwide ban on handguns and, in 1993, organized Chicago's first Gun Turn-in Day. But the following year, while running unsuccessfully for governor, he admitted he owned a handgun — "for protection," he explained — and hadn't seen fit to turn it in along with those other firearms. Lesser mortals apparently can protect themselves with forks and spoons. Scott was shot in the abdomen while chasing a burglar in 1988, so it's understandable that he would appreciate the value of having the means to defend himself against criminals. But that understanding didn't extend to the needs of ordinary Chicagoans. When the city gun ban was challenged in court, the board of education that he headed filed a brief defending Chicago's right "to prohibit classes of arms in order to prevent crime and protect public safety." A law banning handguns, in Scott's view, was necessary to protect public safety. But when it came to protecting his private safety, he somehow perceived the law to be a hindrance, not a help. Does his attitude carry the distinct tang of hypocrisy? Yes, but that's not out of the ordinary for Chicago politicians. Under a state law dating back to 1872, mayors and aldermen are designated peace officers. And, conveniently, peace officers are permitted to not only own but carry handguns. That makes aldermen a special class in Illinois, one of only two states with an almost complete ban on the carrying of concealed handguns. In most places, an adult with no criminal record or history of psychiatric commitment can get a concealed-carry license after taking a training class. But here, we have a unique system. You want to be able to pack a weapon in public for your safety? Fine. All you have to do is 1) run for the City Council and 2) win. Why the state assumes that aldermen are fit for this prerogative is a mystery. "Law-abiding" is not the very first word that comes to mind when you think of the City Council. Since 1972, 27 of its members have been convicted on charges involving malfeasance, misfeasance, nonfeasance, disfeasance and anti-feasance with mopery aforethought. It would be hard to come up with a group of people that has proven itself less deserving of blanket trust. The most recent convict, Arenda Troutman, got four years in prison for bribery after being caught on tape attesting that "most aldermen, most politicians are ho's." At a 1991 neighborhood meeting that got rowdy, Ald. Dorothy Tillman reportedly pulled out her handgun and waved it pugnaciously. In Chicago, only criminals and aldermen are armed. The next time you're tempted to tell one of your Tea Party friends they are exaggerating about the Obama-run government, don't. Rush Limbaugh makes a joke one day, and the media or the Administration acts it out the next. Glenn Beck is excoriated for saying Obama is going to fill the government with radicals—and then several quit under pressure because the American people can't stomach their extreme views. Sean Hannity is poo-poohed by "smart" so-called conservatives like Brooks, Buckley and Frum, saying Obama is not radical, he's moderate, even conservative by "temperament."  We get Cap and Trade, Government Motors and Socialized Medicine. Vince Flynn's latest thriller seems to take a point to the ridiculous extreme when his hero, Mitch Rapp, is hauled before a Senate committee for dislocating a terrorist's shoulder while extracting information in the middle of a massive terrorist attack.  A friend chuckled and commented about my review, "I like the point, but that's a bit far." You might think so, but as Steve Centani reported on Fox News last night, Ahmed Hashim Abed, the Iraqi terrorist who ambushed American contractors, burned their bodies and hung them from a bridge, (which precipitated the Battle of Fallujah) has filed a complaint against the Navy SEAL team that captured him. A terrorist has a "bloody lip;" the SEALs are being court-martialed And not because this piece of human debris only has a bloody lip.  This is not a joke.  Well, it is, but not a funny one. The 2004 atrocity on the Fallujah bridge became a symbol of the brutality of the insurgency in Iraq.  The fact that these men are facing punishment instead of a medal ceremony is a perfect symbol for the futility of the Obama play-acting at war. Of course, next week Barack Obama will be accepting a medal—and a million bucks.  Because the people on the committee expected precisely this kind of behavior from the United States now that he is President. My head hurts. An article by Rowan Scarborough on Fox's website lists the three scapegoats to political correctness: Matthew McCabe, a Special Operations Petty Officer Second Class (SO-2), is facing three charges: dereliction of performance of duty for willfully failing to safeguard a detainee, making a false official statement, and assault. Petty Officer Jonathan Keefe, SO-2, is facing charges of dereliction of performance of duty and making a false official statement. Petty Officer Julio Huertas, SO-1, faces those same charges and an additional charge of impediment of an investigation. What's mindboggling about this, is that the SEALs had handed Abed over to Iraqi custody, and he was returned after making the complaint.  The SEALs all deny he was punched while they had him.  (So much for the old fighting to the death thing, eh?)  It's no secret the enemy would rather be in American custody than Iraqi custody. So, the SEALs probably did not even give Abed the bloody lip; but this is certainly going to give the Obama Defense Department a black eye. This is going to do wonders for recruiting.  I already know one college student considering OCS after graduation who upon hearing this news said, "Well that option's off the table until we get a real Commander-in-Chief." The three SEALs were offered a non-judicial punishment called "a captain's mast."  A slap on the wrist to be sure, but a long-term derailment of three promising careers.  A mark on their permanent records, if you will. So, McCabe, Keefe and Huertas rejected the plea agreement and demanded to appear before a Court Martial to fight for real justice. Think it's a stretch to blame Obama for this?  It's pretty far down the chain of command, after all. Look, admirals and generals know what their Commander-in-Chief wants, and know how to curry favor.  This is new ground.  While many of us were outraged at the Haditha prosecutions of Marines, non-combatants died there.  George W. Bush was a war president for 7 years.  There were no "fat lip" prosecutions during that time.  If you think that's a coincidence… To paraphrase Indiana Jones, have none of these people EVER seen a World War II movie?  Even the Geneva Convention, which the Obama crowd claims to genuflect before, allows you to take non-uniformed combatants out back and shoot them immediately.  To extend GC protections to terrorists makes a uniform a target, and not wearing one a distinct advantage. I'm confident that no court-martial panel made up of warriors will convict these heroes.  And they are certainly better off facing a "military tribunal" of sorts than in falling into the hands of the Obama/Holder Justice Department, where the following is considered a possible war crime. Think I'm kidding?  Read the Justice Department report on the justification for Holder's persecution of the CIA. Note that despite being three of the best-trained soldiers in the world, these three are still not officers.  Perhaps they should have lectured their comrades that Muslims around the world should rise up against the Yankee invaders, railed that infidels must be beheaded, tried to turn in other soldiers for war crimes, and reached out to al Qaeda recruiters with telephone calls. Then, they'd likely be at least Captains by now in the politically correct military. For enemy morale and recruiting, this is worse than Abu Ghraib, and even the future KSM trial.  Our most highly trained commandos, the point of the spear in our fight against the enemy, are being put ON TRIAL for something that would likely have a street cop given a week's suspension.  Forget being trained to resist our interrogation techniques, now al Qaeda can just tell their operatives, "If you are captured, just cry `I have an owie!'" Yesterday, the government agency that approves new broadcasters gave Al Jazeera English permission to start beaming its messages throughout the Great White North (where honor killings, lawfare and plots to behead the Prime Minister are now part of our colo(u)rful multicultural mosaic!) And guess who helped make that possible? Among the many individuals and organizations who filed supporting comments were the National Council on Canada-Arab Relations, Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East, the Canadian Arab Federation, the Arab Canadian Lawyers Association (…) the Service Employees International Union… The SEIU: not just for beating up black guys anymore! Question: will this make it even easier for Al Jazeera to poach former Canadian Broadcasting Corporation bigshots? GENEVA — Islamic nations are mounting a campaign for an international treaty to protect religious symbols and beliefs from mockery — essentially, a ban on blasphemy. Documents obtained by The Associated Press show that Algeria and Pakistan have taken the lead in lobbying to bring the matter to a vote in the U.N. General Assembly. Such a ban would face great resistance in Western nations that enshrine freedom of expression as a fundamental right. The countries that form the 56-member Organization of the Islamic Conference are currently lobbying a Geneva-based U.N. committee to accept its plan, a first step for it to eventually be put before the General Assembly. If that occurs, Muslim countries and their allies in the developing world would stand a decent chance of mustering the simple majority needed in the General Assembly to adopt such a treaty. Patrick Poole via Pajamas Media has the details. …many inside the Columbus Somali community are fixing their suspicions on leaders of another local Somali mosque, Masjid Ibn Taymiya. This mosque is dominated by supporters of the al-Shabaab terrorist group, and members have made repeated attempts to take over the rapidly growing Salama congregation through an unsuccessful campaign of legal and physical intimidation. Following the blaze, I met with two leaders of Masjid Salama, who described the ongoing efforts by the leaders of Ibn Taymiya to take over their burgeoning year-and-a-half-old congregation. On November 12, the Salama leaders had to obtain a temporary restraining order to prevent the bulldozing of their rented facility by a leader of the Ibn Taymiya mosque, Mohamed Hassan, who, they say, is the ringleader of the campaign. "The first thing Hassan did was to obtain the lease rights to the property we rented, and then use his contacts in City Hall to try to illegally evict us," one of the Salama leaders said. In fact, Hassan took the Salama mosque to court earlier this month, only two weeks after the arson at the mosque property, claiming that they had not paid rent — a claim that was soundly rejected by the judge when the Salama leaders provided canceled copies of the rent checks for the past year. Hassan had also rejected checks for the past three months rent. But Hassan's harassment campaign began earlier this year when he obtained trespassing orders from the Columbus prosecutor's office. According to the Salama leaders, Hassan hoped to force them from the mosque property, change the locks overnight, and reopen the mosque the following day with a new imam appointed by Ibn Taymiya. That plan failed when it was pointed out that the mosque property wasn't even in the Columbus prosecutor's jurisdiction, making the orders invalid. The Salama leaders said that Hassan then sent a team of "mediators," who proposed that the entire Salama board resign, but the current imam would be retained and the "mediators" would appoint a new board. Needless to say, the Salama leaders rejected the proposal out of hand: These people have nothing to do with our mosque. Who are they to demand mediation for anything? And all the proposals these mediators proposed would get rid of our board and finish the takeover of our mosque. This new board they would appoint would get rid of our imam as soon as they were in place. Why would we ever agree? Not long after came the fire that has closed Salama ever since and the unsuccessful judicial hearing on the bogus claims that the mosque had not paid its rent. By John Shiffman | Philadelphia Inquirer It began in 2007 with the sale of stolen cell phones and PlayStation2 systems to a fencing operation in Detroit, one with alleged links to the terrorist organization Hezbollah. Over two years, the ring bought more than 20,000 stolen phones, hundreds of video consoles and Nike shoes. The group's appetite grew. It began to order laptops and military gear destined for Beirut. It even paid for stolen BMWs to be shipped overseas. And for nearly two years, an undercover agent in Philadelphia kept selling the ring whatever it wanted, patiently laying the trap. On Saturday, the FBI said, it lured its big fish to Philadelphia, an alleged arms dealer for Hezbollah, and arrested him during a sting, charging him with trying to buy Stinger missiles and machine guns for "the Resistance" in Lebanon. Federal authorities in Philadelphia today unveiled the two-year undercover terrorism investigation, charging five men–three with dual residency in Slovakia and Lebanon, one from Lebanon and one from Centerville, Ga.–with participating in a ring that shipped stolen goods to ports in Beirut, Casablanca, Dubai and Hong Kong. Only one man was charged with a crime related to terrorism – and the U.S. government alleges that he planned to use the Stinger missiles and machine guns against enemies in the Middle East, not the United States. Dani Nemr Tarraf, a 39-year-old resident with residences in Trnava, Slovakia and Lebanon, was arrested Saturday in Philadelphia, after he allegedly arrived to inspect missiles and the guns he planned to ship to Syria. A federal magistrate ordered Tarraf held without bond until a hearing Dec. 7. His lawyer, Marc Neff, said he had not yet met his client and declined to comment. Eight other defendants–five of them from Dearborn, Mich.–were charged in Philadelphia in a separate but related indictment alleging that they bought stolen cell phones, counterfeit shoes, laptop computers and PlayStation2s and fenced them around the world. The other three resided in New York City, Canada and Hong Kong. The eight were charged with conspiracy to traffic in counterfeit and stolen goods. No information was immediately available about their nationalities, and it was not clear how many of the eight were arrested today . More from KYW's Ian Bush: When Dani Nemr Tarraf was in Philadelphia in June, the FBI says he met with an undercover agent, with hopes of purchasing 10,000 machine guns and missiles that could "take down an F-16." US Attorney Michael Levy:   "You don't use those for playing weekend games. These are clearly weapons of war he was procuring for some organization or some government that I don't think, necessarily, would have been friendly toward us." An affidavit says Tarraf put a down payment on the weapons, and asked to have them sent to Syria, so "the Resistance" could use them there, or in Iran. Tarraf was arrested in Philadelphia and charged with weapons conspiracy over the weekend when he came back to inspect the goods. Authorities won't say why the city played a central role in the investigation. From the Macon Sun News: Hussein Ali Asfour, 33, of Centerville, was indicted Tuesday in connection with an alleged terror plot to acquire anti-aircraft missiles and machine guns. Ali Asfour, who also went by the name Alex, was one of five defendants named in the grand jury indictment filed in U.S. District Court in Philadelphia. According to the Department of Justice, in July of this year, Tarraf paid an undercover law enforcement officer in Philadelphia $20,000 toward obtaining about 10,000 M-4 carbine rifles and FIM-92 Stinger missiles. The plot aimed to channel the weapons to "the resistance" in Lebanon and Syria and "take down an F-16," according to the indictment. The F-16 is commonly flown by the Israeli Air Force. Asfour's alleged role in the plot is unclear. He and three others named in the indictment — Dani Nemr Tarraf, Douri Nemr Tarraf and Hassan Mohamad Komeiha — are charged with transporting "interstate and foreign commerce goods and merchandise with a value in excess of $5,000, knowing the same to have been stolen." Update: Here is the DOJ announcement and defendants: A criminal complaint, unsealed today, charged Dani Nemr Tarraf with conspiring to acquire anti-aircraft missiles (FIM-92 Stingers) and conspiring to possess machine guns (approximately 10,000 Colt M4 Carbines). In addition, Tarraf and other defendants — including Douri Nemr Tarraf, Hassan Mohamad Komeiha, and Hussein Ali Asfour — were charged with conspiring to transport stolen goods. Dani Nemr Tarraf and Ali Fadel Yahfoufi were charged with conspiring to commit passport fraud. The complaint also alleges that Dani Nemr Tarraf conspired to acquire anti-aircraft missiles and conspired to possess machine guns. According to the complaint, in or about mid-June 2009, Tarraf asked whether the UC could supply guided missiles and told the UC that he (Tarraf) wanted the UC to export approximately 10,000 "commando" machine guns [Colt M4 Carbines with short barrels] from the United States. On or about July 28, 2009, in Philadelphia, Tarraf paid the UC a deposit of approximately $20,000 toward the cost of purchasing FIM-92 Stinger missiles and approximately 10,000 Colt M4 Carbines and shipping these items outside the United States. Finally, the complaint alleges that Dani Nemr Tarraf and his assistant, Ali Fadel Yahfoufi, conspired to commit passport fraud. In furtherance of their scheme, Yahfoufi provided passport photos of himself to the UC, Tarraf agreed to pay the UC to obtain a U.S. passport in Yahfoufi's name, and Yahfoufi instructed the UC to submit false information to the U.S. government in a passport application. Information regarding the defendants is below: Dani Nemr Tarraf, of Trnava, Slovakia, was born in 1971 and faces a potential maximum sentence of life imprisonment if convicted. Seventeen U.S. sailors were killed when the Navy warship was attacked in the Yemeni port of Aden in October 2000. Husayn Muhammad al-Umari [FBI image and info here] is wanted in connection with the 1982 bombing of Pan Am Flight 830, which killed a teenage passenger and wounded 16. Al-Umari, 73, is one of three people indicted for the bombing and is alleged to have built the explosive device that was placed under a seat and detonated while the plane was en route to Hawaii from Japan carrying 267 people, the FBI said. "A Sunni Muslim who doesn't drink or gamble, al-Umari is said to enjoy smoking Cuban cigars," according to the federal law agency's description. A U.S. State Department program is offering up to $5 million for information leading to their capture or convictions. From Philly.com: Authorities said there was no question that the men at the center of this latest investigation have ties to Hezbollah, the notorious resistance group based in Lebanon. According to the indictment, Harb arranged a meeting between the government informant and a Hezbollah official on June 20, when the men discussed selling weapons to Hezbollah. A few days later, Harb and Hodroj agreed to pay the informant more than $2 million for 1,200 machine guns. Hodroj told the informant to send the weapons in small shipments to the port of Latakia in Syria, the indictment shows. Authorities allege that the men also sought to provide financial support to Hezbollah through a variety of means. In September, Harb allegedly mailed about $9,200 of counterfeit money to the informant in Philadelphia. According to the indictment, Harb previously claimed that the government of Iran produced high-quality fake U.S. currency that was sold to benefit Hezbollah. Harb and Hodroj face the most serious charges, including conspiracy to provide materiel support to a designated foreign terrorist organization and conspiracy to transport weapons in interstate commerce. Also facing the serious charge of providing material support to a terrorist organization are Moussa Ali Hamdan of Brooklyn and Hasan Antar Karaki of Beirut, authorities said. All four men are still on the loose and could face decades in prison. Do hacked e-mails show global-warming fraud? posted at 8:48 am on November 20, 2009 by Ed Morrissey Share on Facebook | printer-friendly Controversy has exploded onto the Internet after a major global-warming advocacy center in the UK had its e-mail system hacked and the data published on line.  The director of the University of East Anglia Climate Research Unit confirmed that the e-mails are genuine — and Australian publication Investigate and the Australian Herald-Sun report that those e-mails expose a conspiracy to hide detrimental information from the public that argues against global warming (via Watt's Up With That): The internet is on fire this morning with confirmation computers at one of the world's leading climate research centres were hacked, and the information released on the internet. A 62 megabyte zip file, containing around 160 megabytes of emails, pdfs and other documents, has been confirmed as genuine by the head of the University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit, Dr Phil Jones. In an exclusive interview with Investigate magazine's TGIF Edition, Jones confirms his organization has been hacked, and the data flying all over the internet appears to have come from his organisation. "It was a hacker. We were aware of this about three or four days ago that someone had hacked into our system and taken and copied loads of data files and emails." Cheers, Phil Prof. Phil Jones Climatic Research Unit Jones told Investigate that he couldn't remember the context of "hide the decline," and that the process was a way to fill data gaps rather than mislead.  But when scientists talk about "tricks" in the context of hiding data, it certainly seems suspicious. Andrew Bolt points to a couple of other suspicious entries in the database as well for the Herald-Sun.  For instance, here we have scientists discussing how to delete inconvenient data in order to emphasize other data that supports their conclusions: From: Tom Wigley [...] To: Phil Jones [...] Subject: 1940s Date: Sun, 27 Sep 2009 23:25:38 -0600 Cc: Ben Santer [...] Phil, Here are some speculations on correcting SSTs to partly explain the 1940s warming blip. If you look at the attached plot you will see that theland also shows the 1940s blip (as I'm sure you know). So, if we could reduce the ocean blip by, say, 0.15 degC, then this would be significant for the global mean – but we'd still have to explain the land blip. I've chosen 0.15 here deliberately. This still leaves an ocean blip, and i think one needs to have some form of ocean blip to explain the land blip (via either some common forcing, or ocean forcing land, or vice versa, or all of these). When you look at other blips, the land blips are 1.5 to 2 times (roughly) the ocean blips—higher sensitivity plus thermal inertia effects. My 0.15 adjustment leaves things consistent with this, so you can see where I am coming from. Removing ENSO does not affect this. It would be good to remove at least part of the 1940s blip, but we are still left with "why the blip". Let me go further. If you look at NH vs SH and the aerosol effect (qualitatively or with MAGICC) then with a reduced ocean blip we get continuous warming in the SH, and a cooling in the NH—just as one would expect with mainly NH aerosols. The other interesting thing is (as Foukal et al. note – from MAGICC) that the 1910-40 warming cannot be solar. The Sun can get at most 10% of this with Wang et al solar, less with Foukal solar. So this may well be NADW, as Sarah and I noted in 1987 (and also Schlesinger later). A reduced SST blip in the 1940s makes the 1910-40 warming larger than the SH (which it currently is not)—but not really enough. So … why was the SH so cold around 1910? Another SST problem? (SH/NH data also attached.) This stuff is in a report I am writing for EPRI, so I'd appreciate any comments you (and Ben) might have. Tom. Hmmm. Update II: This follows on a more mundane controversy over competence at Hadley that erupted in September: A scientific scandal is casting a shadow over a number of recent peer-reviewed climate papers. At least eight papers purporting to reconstruct the historical temperature record times may need to be revisited, with significant implications for contemporary climate studies, the basis of the IPCC's assessments. A number of these involve senior climatologists at the British climate research centre CRU at the University East Anglia. In every case, peer review failed to pick up the errors.

No Joke: The Burqa Barbie Posted: 24 Nov 2009 07:29 PM PST del.icio.us Tags: No Joke: The Burqa Barbie I don't know any subtle way to lead into this – I am appalled that Mattel, the manufacturer of Barbie dolls – has come out with a new line of dolls called "Burqa Barbie." (You remember last year's effort – a cute little baby doll which said "Islam is the light" when you touched him.) This Christmas season, you have your choice of Barbies in the head-to-toe garb favored by some in Islam. Mattel seems to be attempting to convince American girls that being a "Burqa Barbie" is both glamorous and fun. A lot of women who have "come out" of Islam tell a very different story. Under Shariah law, women in Islam cannot leave their homes without the permission of their husband and are the property of their husbands in every way. There is no punishment under Shariah for wife-beating or child abuse and rape is virtually (no pun intended) impossible to prove. So I hope under that brightly colored burqa the new Mattel doll is badly bruised and has a frightened look on her face because most women in burqas are severely abused women. Is this what we dream and hope for future American women? Shariah law is a despicable and anti-Constitutional throwback to the Dark Ages when rights were reserved only for males of certain religions. It is the opposite of America where we guarantee rights equally to every person, except the unborn. Mattel could do a public service by distributing a "Rifqa Bary" Barbie doll which resembles the young Muslim woman in Ohio whose radical parents intend to kill her because she has professed her belief in Jesus Christ. Such "honor killings" are very common among Shariah adherents. The doll would need to look radiant and courageous like the real Rifka but it would be easy to accessorize. A miniature Bible could be tucked under her arm. And a set of cowardly politicians could be enclosed and they would do absolutely nothing just like they did in the real government hearings in Florida and Ohio. So this Christmas give your daughters and granddaughters, Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachman, Sue Myrick or Pamela Geller dolls. These are women of character whose values and courage are worth emulating. Rasmussen shows support down to 38 percent (56 percent opposed) from 45-52 right after the House vote. Will the Senate listen to public opinion? Damn right they will! At this rate, they would have to face the loss of their entire political base to pass this legislation. Politicians don't work that way! These early procedural votes don't mean much. As George W. Bush said in the war on terror, "We have to be right all the time. The enemy just has to get it right once." Now it is the opposite. We just need to win one vote to kill the plan. Reid 'Health Care' Reform Bill Increases Premiums by $3,100 Yearly and Funds Abortion! Reid 'Health Care' Reform Bill Increases Premiums by $3,100 Yearly and Funds Abortion! (Forward To A Friend) – November 24, 2009 – Senator Harry Reid's (D-NV) 2,074-page health care bill will increase family health insurance premiums by an average of $3,100 a year, according to new figures released by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). The CBO says that an average family plan will increase by 28% under the Reid bill – from $11,000 per family to $14,100 per family. In addition, a family of four with an income of $54,000 will pay 17% more of its income for premiums and cost sharing in Reid's government-run health care legislation. Reid's bill will end up costing the American taxpayer $2.5 trillion and leave families with higher health care costs. "Reid's legislative takeover of health care costs Americans $1.2 billion per page or $6.8 million per word!," said TVC Executive Director Andrea Lafferty. "And what do we get for it? Socialized medicine and higher health care costs!" Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) has posted a simple analysis of Reid's bill on his web site. Reid's bill will not only increase health care costs, but result in an estimated loss of 1.6 million jobs and leaves 24 million without health insurance. Reid imposes an $8 billion tax on uninsured Americans and $28 billion in new taxes on employers! Reid also cuts Medicare by $465 billion and cuts $118 from Medicare Advantage. "Reid's solution to health care reform is to tax Americans, punish senior citizens, and increase the cost of health care for everyone," said Lafferty. "This isn't reform, it's a recipe for national disaster and the destruction of the finest health care system in the world." Rationing Mammograms & Gym Membership Heritage Foundation expert Brian Darling has recently exposed the fact that Reid's health care bill will result in the rationing of mammograms for women. According to Darling, Section 2713 of the bill says that the recommendations of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force will have the force of law in determining what's in health plans or what's not covered. Last week, the Task Force gave annual mammograms a "C" rating (not recommended). Right now, insurance companies can ignore the Task Force guideline. Under Reid/ObamaCare, it will have the force of law. A new government bureaucracy (one of 100 new bureaucracies to be created in the Senate bill), will make mammogram health care decisions for women and their physicians.  Under Reid/Obama care, mandated health insurance plans must include "mental health parity," "behavioral health treatment," and include "preventive care," which can include gym memberships. (This is in Section 1302(a) of the bill.) Marriage Penalty Reid/ObamaCare punishes married couples. It will inflict a 0.5% payroll tax on married couples making more than $250,000 a year in wages. Co-habiting couples, however, are free to make $200,000 each before being taxed. Employer Mandates Reid/Obama Care will impose $28 billion in new taxes on employers that don't provide government-approved health insurance plans! These new taxes will be passed on to consumers in the form of higher prices for everything. Abortion Funding Sen. Reid's bill will not only cost more for every family, but he has included a provision that is an abortion-funding fee that will pay for abortion on demand with taxpayer dollars. The abortion funding mandate is on page 118 of the bill. It authorizes the federal government to pay for any and all abortions through a government-run program known as the "public option." Reid's bill will permit the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) to fund all abortions, including third trimester and partial-birth abortions! It will subsidize purchase of private plans that cover abortion on demand, too. "Reid clearly wants American taxpayers to be forced to pay for abortion on demand through his bill. This isn't health care, it's the killing of unborn babies," said Lafferty. The Louisiana Purchase & Other Bribes Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) is a so-called "moderate" who received a multi-million dollar bribe in the form of cash assistance in Reid's bill for her vote to support debate on his legislation. Initially, Reid dropped a $100 million dollar benefit into his bill that benefited only Louisiana. On page 432 of the bill there is a section that increases Medicaid subsidies in states that are recovering from a natural disaster during the past 7 years. That provision only applies to Louisiana! (Landrieu held out for more cash from Reid and has openly boasted that she got $300 million for her state, not just $100 million initially offered.) Landrieu's vote was needed by Reid in order to get the 60 votes necessary last Saturday to approve the legislation for debate within the next few weeks. Other Senators who received deal sweeteners were: Senators Ben Nelson (D-NE), Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Evan Bayh (D-IN). Nelson got Reid to remove a provision stripping health insurers of their anti-trust exemption; and Wyden got Reid to agreed to expand eligibility for health insurance. In addition, Reid made sure that California, the abortion industry, and big labor got deals for support of his socialist health care bill. The abortion lobby, for example, was encouraged by Reid's massive abortion funding mechanism in the bill. California was promised $300 million for an increase in Medicare payments to doctors. According to the Houston Chronicle, in the House-passed version of health care reform, labor unions will receive up to $10 billion in taxpayer-funded bailouts. This $10 billion will be used by unions to pay retiree benefits. The House bill will force home health care workers into unions, too! According to the Chronicle: "Under the proposed public option, Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius would wield tremendous discretionary authority to regulate participating health care workers. She and various federal panels, where the unions would have guaranteed seats, would take the lead in recommending health care policy. Thus, labor would have considerable influence over decisions affecting most doctors, nurses and patients." These pro-union provisions could be added to Reid's bill in a conference committee. TAKE ACTION: Contact your two Senators and urge them to oppose passage of any legislation that nationalizes our health care system!

The bill defines domestic partner as an unmarried adult living in a committed relationship with an unmarried person of the same sex and who plans on living with that person indefinitely. Federal domestic partners would sign sworn affidavits to verify their relationship. (If lesbian lawyer Chai Feldblum becomes an Equal Employment Opportunity Commissioner, she will undoubtedly redefine "domestic partnership" to mean any grouping of individuals who wish to have sex together.) When a domestic partnership dissolves, the federal employee must notify the government within 30 days. In addition, if the federal employee dies, the domestic partner can get their benefits. Natural born children or adopted children of a domestic partner of a federal employee will be considered stepchildren of the federal employee and can receive benefits. "Baldwin's goal is to have LGBT individuals' relationships given the same federal benefits accorded to traditional married couples," said TVC Executive Director Andrea Lafferty.  "It is an attempt to circumvent the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which defines marriage in federal law as a union of one man and one woman." Feldblum denied that she supports polygamy and told Harkin it was a mistake for her to have signed the BeyondMarriage petition. Feldblum may not support polygamy, but she is a long-time supporter of polyamory, which is even more troublesome. Polygamy is typically one man with many wives. Polyamory is many men and women all engaged in sex acts. Chai Feldblum outlines her views on traditional marriage, gay marriage and other forms of relationships in her paper, "Gay Is Good: The Moral Case For Marriage Equality And More." Feldblum has her doubts about traditional marriage: "I, for one, am not sure whether marriage is a normatively good institution. I have moved away from the belief that marriage is clearly the best normative way to structure intimate relationships, such that government should be actively supporting this social arrangement above all others.10 I currently believe that marriage is a normatively "good" framework for most people to aspire to (I think), because it serves some very deep and legitimate human needs. But I also believe all of us are harmed, as members of a society seeking a common good, when society fails to acknowledge the wide array of non-marital intimate social structures that we as humans have ingeniously constructed to negotiate and make sense of the world." Later in her paper, she describes what she means by "the wide array of non-marital intimate social structures." Throughout her paper, she favorably quotes William Eskridge, a gay Yale Law School professor who is a sexual anarchist in his views.  Eskridge testified on behalf of ENDA at a House Committee hearing on September 23, 2009.  Eskridge's extremist views, however, were not discussed. Eskridge is on record as supporting polyamory; opposes laws against prostitution, sado-masochism, pornography and some forms of adult-child sex. Eskridge has co-authored legal papers with Nan Hunter, Feldblum's lesbian partner. Feldblum Defines New Family Structures and Treats Them Like "Marriage" Feldblum questions the value of traditional marriage and supports polyamorous relationships that can include both sexual and non-sexual relationships of multiple partners. Feldblum has coined the term "Non-Sexual Domestic Partners" (NSDPs) to describe a wide range of arrangements that she considers "families." She wants these NSDPs to be given the same kind of state support currently given to traditional marriages. Other arrangements could include a daughter caring for her mother; two sisters living together; four older women retiring together. At the time she wrote her "Gay is Good" paper, she was living with three women in a "non-sexual relationship." She considered this her family and says that the state should provide "logistical support" to this kind of arrangement. Currently, it is reported that Feldblum is living with her lesbian partner (in a sexual relationship, we presume), which may or may not be part of this group.  According to Feldblum: "(Indeed, the gay community has pioneered in developing such relationships and non-gay individuals could learn and benefit from developing similar relationships.) My argument is not that such relationships should supplant the appropriate role that the public sector should play in supporting families and retirees. It is simply that the state has an obligation to recognize and support these non-sexual domestic partnerships – these "moral units" of society — as well as sexual relationships that offer care and support." In a footnote to her paper, Feldblum references a paper critical of monogamy and supportive of polyamory. She notes in her footnote that the paper "argues that cultural prescriptions enforcing monogamy obfuscate individual needs and impede self-identification, thereby interfering with real intimacy and satisfaction in love relationships." The paper is: "Monogamy's Law: Compulsory Monogamy And Polyamorous Existence" by Elizabeth Emens, New York University, 2004. Her confirmation to the EEOC is a steppingstone to the U.S. Supreme Court. Once on the EEOC, it will only be a matter of time before Obama picks her for a Supreme Court vacancy, where she will enjoy a lifetime appointment without any accountability for her bizarre views. A vote on Feldblum in the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee (HELP) is tentatively scheduled to take place in early December! More than a few have talked about their willingness to stay in Washington through next week to work on health care reform, cutting into what is traditionally a nice long Thanksgiving break. While they may seem driven to overhaul the system, the real motivation for hanging around may be slightly less noble. Staying in D.C. helps to insulate them from angry constituents back home. Plenty of Senators would be happy to spend their holiday as far away as possible from their states, where outrage over both plans has reached its boiling point. Unfortunately for Democrats, the country's mood isn't likely to improve anytime soon, even if Sen. Harry Reid finally manages to write his version of reform. "Americans resent being ignored by arrogant politicians who think they know better how to run our lives than we do," columnist Connie Hair wrote on the Human Events website. As it turns out, even politicians resent being ignored by other arrogant politicians. Last month, eight Democrats sent the Majority Leader a formal letter demanding that the Senate–and public–have access to the bill for at least 72 hours prior to its first vote. Initially, Sen. Reid agreed. According to Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.), "he promised 'days–not a day or two' for lawmakers to review the yet-to-be-seen bill before attempting to clear a 60-vote procedural hurdle needed to bring the legislation to the Senate floor." Yet already the leadership is weighing a vote on the motion to proceed in the next two days–without even releasing the bill text! If you ask Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), he thinks the chamber should have at least as long to review the bill as liberals had to write it. But Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), the second highest ranking Democrat, essentially said yesterday that the Senate will be lucky to have 72 hours, let alone six weeks! Supposedly, a partial Congressional Budget Office (CBO) score on the concept that Sen. Reid sent them was delivered yesterday and could be presented as early as this afternoon. FRC will be watching the process closely and keeping our eyes peeled for any move to dump the Stupak amendment. So will the American people–61% of whom oppose taxpayer-funded abortion, according to a new CNN poll. It's the ENDA the World as We Know It In an announcement that took both sides by surprise, today's mark-up of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) was cancelled. We'll be on the lookout for ENDA to crop up later in the year, since it's a crucial step in moving forward with the broader homosexual agenda. But don't take it from us. Stay tuned for more on that fight. Wanna Be a State? Then Act like One! While the House is deciding whether or not to give the District of Columbia more autonomy, the city is bent on denying the same freedom to residents. Yesterday, the D.C. Board of Elections refused to let voters decide the fate of same-sex "marriage" by denying the petition of Stand4MarriageDC to put an initiative on the ballot. The Board, which has just two members, said that Bishop Harry Jackson's Marriage Initiative "authorizes discrimination." In the end, the only real discrimination is what this Board is practicing against 399,127 registered voters who have a fundamental right to decide this issue. If the District can't be trusted to enforce the U.S. Constitution–housed within its own city limits–then Congress should be suspicious of the au thority D.C. already has- not consider offering it more. A Fact a Day Keeps H.R. 3962 Away… President Obama says: Eat your vegetables! Believe it or not, Section 2572 of the House bill orders the federal government to regulate vending machines with nutrition labels on items in plain sight before people purchase their food. The measure would also mandate retail food establishments "part of a chain with 20 or more locations" to list calorie counts "on the menu board–including a drive-thru board."

According to a CNN poll, 61 percent of Americans are opposed to government funding of abortion. What's more, 51 percent said they believed payment for abortions should come directly from the women seeking them. The results highlight the battle that has been raging, first in the U.S. House and now in the Senate, over inclusion of abortion funding in health-care reform. Pro-life members in the House were able to get an amendment passed banning federal funding of abortions. Word on Capitol Hill on Monday was that the amendment and the House version of health care were dead. Now it's the Senate's turn. Sen. Khalid Kelly, a former altar boy from the Liberties area of Dublin who used to be known as Terry, told The Sunday Times he is undergoing weapons training in Pakistan's mountainous tribal region in order to fight jihad against the enemies of Islam. His dream is to face a British soldier in combat, although he would "settle" for an American, he said. "I'm already on the path to jihad. I've already picked up a gun and done target practice to make myself familiar with weapons. The other day I learnt how to use an M-16 [rifle] in five hours," he said. "Next week, inshallah, I could be in Afghanistan fighting a British soldier." Asked how he would feel about his own three-year-old son becoming a suicide bomber he replied: "I hope he goes to jannah [heaven] before marriageable age." His son, named Osama after Kelly's role model, lives in Britain with his Pakistani mother and two younger brothers. His father reckons Osama will be efficient with weapons by the age of ten. Kelly says he learnt map-reading in the Scottish mountains, terrain similar to Afghanistan, although he admits he is currently out of shape. He justifies his intentions because of the West's actions against Muslims. "Why is it such a big deal that I want to do this? Have I not got the right to do the same thing as a guy going into an army recruitment centre?" he said. "As long as we have no security, you will have no security. We'll kill and bomb you as you have killed and bombed our lands." Ireland is also a legitimate target, according to Kelly. "Ireland has a US embassy so it is open to attack," he stated. Kelly, 42, is an unconventional jihadist. Having grown up a staunch Catholic and trained as a nurse, he moved to Saudi Arabia in 1996 to work at the King Faisal hospital on a tax-free salary. At issue here is the fact that, under Islamic law, the life of a Muslim is worth more than a non-Muslim in terms of the required diyya, or compensation by blood money, and a non-Muslim who kills a Muslim is to be put to death. And that raises a question that applies to perceived Muslim grievances around the world: Would Hasan care half as much if the casualties inflicted by American soldiers during combat operations were non-Muslims? Would the Muslim world be in such an uproar over Kashmir and "Palestine" if all of the disputing parties were non-Muslim? Khaled Nawaya found that out the hard way when he was arrested Oct. 6 at the Douglas border crossing in Surrey, B.C., and had to spend a month in detention while being investigated as a security threat. He was released on Thursday with a long list of conditions after a hearing before the federal government's Immigration Division member Lynda Mackie. He remains to have no status in Canada. Mr. Nawaya, 34, had a visa to get into the country and, according to his lawyer, Phil Rankin, has spent 18 months going through all that's required to move to Canada from the U.S. as a landed immigrant. But the Saudi Arabian-born Syrian citizen, who is qualified as a flight instructor and had hoped to work in B.C., complicated his situation by not declaring the money. It's an experience for life. It's one of these things." Following last Tuesday's election, the last thing Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) wanted to do was allow Members of Congress to go home and talk to their constituents about the $2.6 trillion health care bill she was marshaling through Congress. The centerpiece of Pelosi's trap and pressure campaign was a Saturday address by President Barack Obama in the Cannon Office Building, where Obama warned Democrats: "Does anybody think that the teabag, anti-government people are going to support them if they bring down health care? All it will do is confuse and dispirit [Democratic voters] and it will encourage the extremists." The extremists. That is how the President of the Unites States describes Americans who do not want to see the federal government control over half of all health care spending. And just who are some of these extremists? Looking over just today's papers we find: Newsweek's Fareed Zakaria: "Obama's message to the country appears to be, "We have a dysfunctional health-care system with out-of-control costs, and let's add 45 million people to it." Americans see a health-care bill that has been produced by the old Democratic machine rather than the new Democratic technocrats — more Lyndon Johnson than Larry Summers. It might be the only way to get a law passed, and it might please the party's base, but it will dismay independents." The Washington Post's Fred Hiatt: "Health-care reform should not add to the deficit. It should control health-care costs. And, once reform is passed, the government will get serious about deficit reduction. Unfortunately, the House bill fails his first test." Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT): "If the public option plan is in there, as a matter of conscience, I will not allow this bill to come to a final vote." Everybody listed above acknowledges we desperately need to fix health care policy. They just do not believe that the House plan is the best way to go about doing so. Conservatives have our own, patient centered, vision for health care reform. There has even been some legislation introduced, some better than others, that reflect this vision. Supporting health care policy that empowers patients, and not a new Health Czar, is common sense, not extremism. There is a reason the leaders on the left are desperate to keep Members of Congress in Washington and away from their constituents. If they had to face real Americans, defenders of the House health care bill would have to defend the facts that their bill: Has a true ten year cost of $2.6 trillion while our country already faces record deficits. Raises taxes by $700 billion while our country already faces 10.2% unemployment. Massively expands a Medicaid program that already provides substandard reimbursement rates, is bankrupting states, and is bankrupt itself. And that does not even include the possibility that Obama's Health Czar would use the authority granted in the bill to use the public option to destroy private health care entirely. Perhaps most striking about the President's performance on Saturday is that he opened his 20 minute health care pep rally with some remarks about the tragic shootings at Fort Hood, Texas. That, Mr. President, is extremism. Opposing policies through democratic means is not. Quick Hits: President Barack Obama will be absent when Germans celebrate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall today. The Army's top general, who has long raised concerns that repeated deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan could damage the military's readiness, said he backed an increase in U.S. forces in Afghanistan. China has offered oil and mineral rich African governments $10 billion in low-interest development loans over the next three years and forgiveness on some remaining debt. Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez told the military and civil militias today to prepare for war as a deterrent to a U.S.-led attack after American troops gained access to military bases in neighboring Colombia. State worker at the California Franchise Tax Board says members of the local SEIU 1000 beat him up and sent him to the hospital all because he wanted to expose alleged corruption within the union. Islamic jihadists now control most of the country-and sharia is the law of the land. Tens of thousands of Somali refugees have resettled in America in recent years to escape the chaos of their homeland, which is located in the Horn of Africa. But the transition isn't going smoothly in one small town. At first glance, Shelbyville is your typical sleepy southern hamlet. It's nestled in middle Tennessee, where the walking horse is king. There's Main St., the local sheriff, a movie theatre. It's all very "Mayberry," except for one big difference: the recent arrival of hundreds of Somali Muslims. Shelbyville is about an hour's drive from Nashville, in the heart of the Bible Belt. Like many Americans, the citizens of Shelbyville knew little about Somalia other than the 1993 Black Hawk Down incident, in which 18 U.S. servicemen were killed while battling warlords and Islamic jihadists in the Somali capital of Mogadishu. So when hundreds of Somalis began turning up in the town–many of them dressed in traditional Islamic garb–locals quickly took notice. "They've had an impact here. Unfortunately, it's not been a good impact," said Brian Mosely, a reporter for the local Shelbyville Times-Gazette. Mosely won an award from the Associated Press for a series of articles he wrote for the paper about Shelbyville's Somalis. "I found that there was just an enormous culture clash going on here," he said. "The Somalis were–according to a lot of the people I talked to here–were being very, very rude, inconsiderate, very demanding. Tthey would go into stores and haggle over prices. They would also demand to see a male salesperson, would not deal with women in stores" "Their culture is totally alien to anything the residents are used to," Mosely added. The problems extend to local schools–where some Somali students won't talk to female administrators. There have also been issues with local law enforcement. "I'm not really sure whether that is because of experiences with the police in their country, or whether that's just the way their culture is," said Shelbyville's Police Chief, Austin Swing. Shelbyville is home to about 17,000 people. The town's Somali population is estimated to be between 400 and 1,000. Mosely says the Somalis have isolated themselves from the rest of the community. Nidal Malik Hasan because it was a military target. "America's chickens have come home to roost," shouted a representative of the group. A website run by Revolution Muslim is also honoring Hasan, the man accused of killing 13 people at Fort Hood in Texas, as an "officer and a gentleman," saying his actions should not be denounced. The massacre, which also left more than two dozen injured, was called a "pre-emptive attack" by supporters of the group. Hasan, a Muslim psychiatrist who reportedly had been disciplined for pushing Islam on his patients at one point in his career, had given away his furniture and handed out Qurans before going to the military post and firing on soldiers at a processing center where soldiers prepared to deploy. There were multiple reports he had objected to being placed in the position of possibly having to fight fellow Muslims by his scheduled deployment to the Middle East. "Major Nidal Hasan M.D. An officer and a gentleman was injured while partaking in a pre-emptive attack." The website lists as its imam Sheik Abdullah el-Faisal, who in February 2003 was sentenced to nine years in jail, reduced to seven on appeal, after being convicted of soliciting murder and inciting racial hatred in England. According to reports in the London Guardian at the time, hundreds attended his lectures, possibly including James Ujaama, a U.S. citizen accused of trying to help the Taliban in Afghanistan; Richard Reid, who attempted to detonate a bomb in his shoe while crossing the Atlantic in a jetliner; and Zacarias Moussaoui, jailed for the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks on the U.S. The reports said el-Faisal, who later was released and returned to his home in Jamaica, suggested Muslims attend training camps to gain the skills to wage jihad on the West. He was recorded praising Osama bin Laden and saying, "You have to learn how to shoot and fly planes and drive tanks." El-Faisal also said chemical weapons should be utilized to "exterminate non-believers" and said Muslim mothers should buy toy guns for their children to providing training opportunities. "We do NOT denounce this officer's actions, we do however apologize for the following acts committed by our country," the U.S.-based website's supporters said. They listed: "Bay of Tonkin, The East Timor Massacre by USA Supported Suharto, 1902 Samar Massacre in the Philippines by the USMC, 1,000,000 Dead Iraqis, Afghani & Pakistanis Killed by the USA, Starvation of Africa & Rape of it's (sic) Resources by the USA, Support of the Brutal 'Israeli' Occupation Entity, Etc. Etc." "Every day is Fort Hood for the world community due to USA policies and their tyrant totalitarian puppet regimes," the activists proclaimed. "Rest assure (sic) the slain terrorists at Fort Hood are in the eternal hellfire and it is not to (sic) late for YOU to change your policies," they said. The website's mission statement states, "Revolution Muslim is a message and movement grounded in the sayings, deeds, actions and understanding of Ahlus Sunnah wal jama'ah (The collective body of those Muslims that adhere to the ways of the Prophet (SAWS) and the first four generations of Muslims)." It continues, "We pray that we may witness the dismantlement of western, secular dominance across the world as we hold it to be pagan and idolatrous in the majority of its presumptions. We seek a resurrection of the just example set forth by centuries of Islamic rule throughout the ages and we hold it to be self evident for the objective soul and mind that Allah is One and that Muhammad ibn Abdullah is His Prophet and that the religion offers the solution to all of the world's ills and afflictions." The post commander said soldiers reported they heard Hasan shout "Allahu akbar," or "Allah is the greatest," while he was shooting. The site is disdainful of other Islamic organizations, citing a condemnation from the Islamic Society of North America regarding the shootings. "ISNA – The house dog, barks once more to please its kafir Masters," Revolution Muslim wrote. Hasan was born and raised in Virginia, but has family outside of Jerusalem. He enlisted and obtained his education from the military. He spent most of his career at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington until he was sent to Fort Hood this year, from where he apparently was to be deployed.

HOOD ATTACK WAS TERRORISM By DICK MORRIS & EILEEN MCGANN Published on DickMorris.com on November 8, 2009 In his nationally televised remarks following the horrendous killings at Ft. Hood, President Obama never mentioned the T word.  The attack was an act "of violence."  No mention of terrorism. In fact, the Ft. Hood shooting is the first terror attack on American soil since 9-11.  But Obama, reluctant to take the rap for inadequate protections against such attacks, is doing everything he can to make it look like an adult version of the Columbine school shootings.  We are treated to stories about the killer's dread of being sent back to Afghanistan and his deformed personality.  But, the fact is that Major Nidal Malik Hasan jumped on a table, yelled "Alah Hu Akhbar" and began the shooting rampage that killed 13 people and wounded 30 more. Ilana Freedman, CEO and Senior Analyst for the Gerard Group International, which provides intelligence analysis for business and homeland security, describes Hasan as a "lone wolf terrorist" who acts without apparent coordination with any other person or organization.  But that does not make him any less of a terrorist. The dividing line, of course, between a terrorist and a psychopathic killer is political motivation.  His statements right before opening fire would indicate that Hasan was motivated by fanaticism and a commitment to Islamic fascism, even though President Obama bends over backwards to avoid saying so. Obama's refusal to call the attack terrorism, and to heed the warning signs about the porous nature of our security system that allowed it to happen on a military base, recalls President Clinton's deliberate decision to downplay the 1993 attack on the World Trade Center.  He did not visit the site of the attack and treated it as a crime, promising to find those guilty and punish them, rather than to attack the international groups that funded and enabled them. There may be no groups behind Major Hasan's attack, but the fact that he was an officer in the Army, with full access to a military base and its arsenal of weapons, while holding the views he did, is the first indication of a laxity in security under President Obama.  This attack did not take place in a shopping mall or a school, where security procedures are, understandably, relaxed.  It happened on the highest security place of all – a military base!  That the military failed to spot the possibility of an attack and had no measures in place to prevent it must be laid at the feet of the commander-in-chief of that military: President Barack Obama. Many commentators have warned that the diminution of security and the weakening of our anti-terrorist protections would leave us vulnerable to be hit again.  Now it has happened.  And the president is doing everything he can to blur the distinction between murder and terrorism. It was his failure to understand the difference between an act of war and a crime that undermined President Clinton's administration's anti-terror efforts and led directly to 9-11.  It would appear that President Obama is going down the same road of denial and minimization of political harm.  There may be casualties at Ft. Police arrested Faleh Almaleki at Atlanta's airport after he was denied entrance by authorities in Great Britain. The 48-year-old is accused of running over his 20-year-old daughter, Noor, and a friend with his jeep because she had become "too westernized." The woman had been in the hospital since Oct. 20 and remained in serious condition after extensive spinal surgery. She died Monday of her injuries. Authorities are expected to upgrade the charges against Almaleki in light of her death. Christian Teen's Lawyer: Rifqa at More Risk in OH The lawyer of Christian convert Rifqa Bary says he believes the 17-year-old could be in greater danger in her home state. Attorney John Stemberger spoke out, Monday, about the deal that returned Bary to Columbus, Ohio.  The teen said she fled to Florida from her home after her Muslim parents threatened to kill her for leaving Islam. Stemberger also told CBN News that he believes the Barys are illegally living in America. "An agreement was cut, apart from my representation," he said. "I wasn't even present. It was between the lawyers in Ohio that represent Rifqa, the guardian ad litem, and the parents lawyers in Ohio that they would consent to the adjudication of dependency." "That is, they would agree to allow Bary to be declared a dependent in need of services in Ohio in exchange for not requiring the parents to produce that immigration documentation," he added. Even though he thinks Bary is more at risk in Ohio than Florida, Stemberger, said he does not think she is in grave danger while she waits in foster care for the dependency case to play out.

'Law and Order' Tackles Abortion Posted: 04 Nov 2009 06:48 AM PST del.icio.us Tags: 'Law and Order' Tackles Abortion,video 'Law and Order' Tackles Abortion by Guy Benson NBC's venerable crime procedural, "Law & Order," has endured a fair amount of deserved criticism around here lately.  Big Hollywood's thoughtful critiques of the show's leftward slide and irksome predictability are, sadly, valid.  Like many L&O fans, I've been forced to admit that recent seasons have been quite disappointing.   The word "cancellation" has cropped up in my mind more than once. That being said, this season has been refreshingly solid.  Aside from the atrocious "Let's prosecute Cheney!" season premiere, each successive episode has been vintage "Law & Order."  The most recent episode ("Dignity," October 23) bordered on spectacular.  *Spoiler alert* It did not begin auspiciously.  The opening sequence set the stage for yet another warmed-over episode wherein an abortionist is murdered, and the rest of the program consists of detectives trying to determine which anti-abortion nutter did the deed.  The show's writers usually permit one character to utter a single token pro-life line ("Just because you might disagree with abortion doesn't justify this violence!"), while the oh-so-reasonable pro-choice characters get the last word.  Having seen this template before, I almost flipped channels.  It seems as though at least one of the L&O spinoff series airs a "new" abortion-doctor-murder episode every year.  One wonders if more abortionists have been slain on this fictional television franchise over the past 20 years than in real life. But last week's episode marked a dramatic departure from the familiar, biased trope.  After detective Bernard makes a few forceful pro-life points in an impromptu squad car debate with his partner, ADA Cutter jumps into the fray. He professes his pro-life views and refutes a condescending response from his pro-choice colleague (Rubirosa) by citing the "turning tide" of public opinion and mentioning that most Americans now consider themselves pro-life.  Apparently Mr. Cutter's been checking the latest Gallup stats. Rubirosa replies by pointedly referring to those who share Cutter's views as "anti-choice," at which point the reliably liberal District Attorney, Jack McCoy, mentions his own daughter's change of heart on the issue.  She was staunchly pro-choice, he explains, prior to seeing the image of her unborn child in an ultrasound.   End of scene. Jaw-dropping stuff. Later in the episode, it's revealed that the victim was performing illegal, post-birth abortions–more commonly known as murder–at his clinic.  A whistle-blower nurse informs the DA office that she left the deceased doctor's practice after witnessing a failed abortion result in a live birth, and then a callous killing.  (For those who follow the abortion issue closely, this story may sound familiar.  It also raises an issue that was used to highlight the radical pro-abortion record of a certain post-partisan Messiah during the 2008 campaign). On the stand, the nurse testifies about the repugnant practice, explaining that the baby's corpse was discarded as "medical waste." This revelation horrifies both Rubirosa and the jury. Later in the trial, another witness describes her decision not to abort her severely disabled child.  Her story moves the jury to tears. The prosecution then calls an expert witness–a doctor–who testifies that his murdered colleague was doing good, medically necessary work.  Upon cross-examination, he's exposed as a pro-abortion zealot; willing to perform third trimester abortions for any reason, no matter what the law says.  His contempt for Christians and pro-lifers is palpable, and turns off the jury.  The prosecutors are left wringing their hands about how poorly he performed on the stand. Again, stunning.  I kept checking the channel guide–this really was "Law & Order." As the episode drew to a close, ADA Rubirosa offers the following admission: "I grew up thinking Roe v. Wade was gospel.  That a woman's privacy was inviolate.  But after hearing that woman on the stand talk about her baby dying in her arms, I don't know.   I don't know where my privacy ends and another being's dignity begins." Cutter (the pro-life one, remember) tells her that in the current case, the distinctions are pretty black and white, and that it's their job to put away the bad guys.  To which Rubirosa replies, "I'm glad it's so clear-cut for you, Mike.  Unfortunately, I can't leave my soul in the umbrella stand when I come into work in the morning." You can watch the scene described above here.  In case you were curious, the trial ends with the abortionist's killer being convicted.  (A verdict that all true pro-lifers would applaud).  "Dignity" provided viewers with a nuanced, layered depiction of a hot-button social issue that did justice–and then some–to the conservative position. To the writers and producers of "Law & Order," Bravo.

Shabazz' namesake was among the 110 names and 481 visits released by the White House on Friday as part of the Obama administration's so-called volunteer disclosure policy. The names were just a fraction of the hundreds of thousands of visitors who have gone through the White House's doors since January. Among the famous names that stood out on the brief list were Shabazz, Jeremiah Wright and William Ayers. The White House blog claimed all three names were "false positives" – names that make you think of a well-known person, but are actually someone else. Added the official blog: "In September, requests were submitted for the names of some famous or controversial figures (for example Michael Jordan, William Ayers, Michael Moore, Jeremiah Wright, Robert Kelly, and Malik Shabazz). The well-known individuals with those names never actually came to the White House. Nevertheless, we were asked for those names, and so we have included records for those individuals who were here and share the same names." Other famous names confirmed to have visited the White House include Oprah Winfrey and George Soros. Asked by WND to confirm or deny he had visited the White House, Shabazz replied by e-mail "no comment on that one." There is no known record of Shabazz visiting the White House. (Story continues below) WND previously broke the story that Shabazz's New Black Panther Party, or NBPP, endorsed Obama on its own page of the presidential candidate's official site, which allowed registered users to post their own blogs. The NBPP labeled itself on Obama's site as representing "freedom, justice and peace for all of mankind." It linked to the official NBPP website, which contains what can be arguably regarded as hate material. Shabazz's NBPP is a controversial black extremist party whose leaders are notorious for their racist statements and for leading anti-white activism. Shabazz has given scores of speeches condemning "white men" and Jews. His NBPP's official platform stated, "White man has kept us deaf, dumb and blind," referred to the "white racist government of America," demanded black people be exempt from military service and used the word Jew repeatedly in quotation marks. Shabazz has led racially divisive protests and conferences, such as the 1998 Million Youth March, in which a few thousand Harlem youths reportedly were called upon to scuffle with police officers and speakers demanded the extermination of whites in South Africa. The NBPP chairman was quoted at a May 2007 protest against the 400-year celebration of the settlement of Jamestown, Va., stating, "When the white man came here, you should have left him to die." He claimed Jews engaged in an "African holocaust," and he has promoted the anti-Semitic urban legend that 4,000 Israelis fled the World Trade Center just prior to the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. When Shabazz was denied entry to Canada last May while trying to speak at a black action event, he blamed Jewish groups and claimed Canada "is run from Israel." Canadian officials justified the action, stating he has an "anti-Semitic" and "anti-police" record, but some reports blamed what was termed a minor criminal history for the decision to deny him entry. He similarly blamed Jews for then-New York Mayor Rudi Giuliani's initial decision, later rescinded, against granting a permit for the Million Youth March. In a 1993 speech condemned by the U.S. Congress and Senate, late NBPP chairman Muhammad, lionized on the NBPP site, referred to Jews as "bloodsuckers," labeled the pope a "no-good cracker" and advocated the murder of white South Africans who would not leave the nation subsequent to a 24-hour warning. All NBPP members must memorize the group's rules, such as that no party member "can have a weapon in his possession while drunk or loaded off narcotics or weed," and no member "will commit any crimes against other party members or black people at all." The deceased chairman of the NBPP, Khallid Abdul Muhammad, is a former Nation of Islam leader who was once considered Lois Farrakhan's most trusted adviser. Muhammad gave speeches referring to the "white man" as the devil and claiming that "there is a little bit of Hitler in all white people."

The claim by Allen, Politico's chief political correspondent, was so absurd that, on the spot, host Joe Scarborough offered 3:1 odds to Allen and anyone else wanting to place a few kopeks on Dem Bill Owens. MIKE ALLEN: This is a real toss-up, because there are a lot of absentee ballots that are already in, we don't know who those are for.
